The Tegernseelauf draws a crowd of over 4,000 runners to the Tegernsee, a six-kilometre-long lake that sits at the foot of the Alps in Bayern (Bavaria), Germany.

The majority of the participants run the half marathon, which is one lap around the lake. In addition, the event offers a 10k race, which is run out and back along the eastern shore, and two races for young athletes (5k and 1,5k).

All races begin and end at the railway station of Gmund am Tegernsee, a small town situated at the northern tip of the lake, approximately fifty kilometres south of München (Munich).

The course is undulating with some testing ascents.

Most of the route is on asphalt roads. Some sections are on gravel.
