Ostrava City Marathon is one of the Czech Republic’s classic road races and in 2026 it returns for its 67th edition on Sunday, September 6, with the start and finish atmosphere centered on Masaryk Square in Ostrava. It’s more than a race day: the event is built as a running festival with music, community energy and a strong “by runners, for runners” feel. What makes Ostrava special is the route story. You’ll move through the city’s three faces in one run — the historic center, bold industrial landmarks, and greener riverfront sections — creating a course that feels constantly changing, not repetitive. Parts of the course traditionally pass through industrial sites and former mining areas that many visitors don’t normally see, before returning to a lively finish back on the square. The festival also keeps a meaningful focus: the MiniMarathon supports a charitable cause, so even the shortest distance can be part of something bigger. If you want a fast race, a fun city weekend, or a unique industrial-meets-green running experience, Ostrava delivers a very different kind of marathon day.
