X-WATERS Kazakhstan 2026 is a three-day open-water swimming festival held 7–9 August 2026 on Borovoe (Borovoe Lake) in Burabai, Kazakhstan—a resort area often nicknamed “Kazakhstan Switzerland” for its pine forests, granite shores, and clear, shallow water. The стартовый городок is based by the lake at Wyndham Garden Burabay, making it easy to combine racing with a family getaway: beach access, forest air, and a compact event hub all in one place.
The courses are designed for different levels—from first-time open-water swimmers to endurance-focused athletes—while keeping navigation simple (buoyed routes, shared start/finish for most distances, and a relay format that turns the beach into a real team arena). Expect a warm community vibe, scenic views across the lake, and a signature landmark on the longer routes: the Zhumbaktas Rock, which adds a “swim-the-myth” feel to the weekend.
- Distances
• 500 m (Adults 18+)
A short, confidence-building lake swim with a beach start and a clearly marked buoy line. Ideal if you want the X-WATERS atmosphere without a long effort, or as a fast “warm-up race” if you’re also combining it with a longer distance.
• 1 km (14+)
The most accessible “proper” open-water challenge: a loop course that starts and finishes on the same beach. Smooth water, clear sighting, and a manageable distance make it a great first step into open water—or a high-speed time trial for stronger swimmers.
• 4 km (14+) — cross-lake swim
The scenic “big experience” distance: a point-to-point crossing from Nomad Pier (near Zhumbaktas) straight across Borovoe to the main event finish. This is your chance to feel the scale of the lake—steady pacing, strong line choice, and a finish that feels like arriving on a different shore.
• 8 km (18+) — flagship endurance
For trained swimmers who want the full Borovoe story: a long counterclockwise buoyed route that takes you out into open lake water, around Mount Zhumbaktas, and back to the main venue. Expect sustained effort, disciplined feeding/hydration planning, and a finish that’s as much about mental strength as fitness.
• Relay 3×500 m (14+)
Beach-based relay racing with fast handovers and constant energy at the start/finish zone. Each swimmer completes a 500 m leg on the same marked course, then tags the next teammate on shore. Perfect for clubs, friends, and families who want competition plus fun.
• X-KIDS 500 m (7–17)
A youth-focused open-water race that lets kids experience a “real” lake swim in an organized setting. Great for confident young swimmers who want a longer challenge than pool sprints—while still staying within a festival-style, supportive environment.
