20 van Alphen

20 van Alphen is one of the best-known early-season running events in the Netherlands and is widely presented by the organizers as the opening classic of the Dutch road-running calendar. The 60th edition is scheduled for 6–7 March 2027 in Alphen aan den Rijn, continuing a tradition that began in 1953 and has long made the race a familiar marker of the start of spring for Dutch runners.

What makes the event stand out is its blend of heritage and accessibility. While the race became famous for its historic 20 km format, recent editions have expanded the program with a half marathon, 10 km, 5 km, and walking options, giving both experienced runners and newer participants a place in the same race weekend. The courses run on fully paved roads through and around Alphen aan den Rijn, with the half marathon and 10 km officially certified, a start on Prins Bernardlaan, and a finish in Burgemeester Visserpark, where the event atmosphere continues after the race. Organizers also highlight on-course musical support, adding a festive feel to an event that combines competitive ambition with a welcoming local character.
